Colorado law requires children ages 6-17 to attend public school with limited exceptions. Parents are responsible for ensuring attendance. Courts may compel attendance and order treatment plans addressing attendance problems. The Board may authorize employees to represent the district in truancy proceedings. Court action is a last-resort approach after employing best practices and research-based strategies to address truancy and minimize judicial intervention.
