The constitutional rights of individuals assure the protection of due process of law; therefore, this system of constitutionally and legally sound procedures is developed with regard to the administration of discipline in schools. 1 The hallmark of the exercise of disciplinary authority shall be fairness. 2 Reasonable efforts shall be made by administrators and faculty members to resolve problems through effective utilization of school district resources, in cooperation with the student and his parent or guardian. 3 A student shall be given an opportunity to contest any alleged facts leading to disciplinary action, or to contest the appropriateness of the …
