Policy – Students absent without parental excuse or leaving school without permission are truant. Habitual truants have four unexcused absences monthly or ten yearly. Parents receive annual written notification of attendance obligations and must provide contact information. Schools monitor absences and notify parents when students are absent. Plans are developed for at-risk students with parent participation. Penalties include warnings, detention, or in-school suspension but not academic penalties, out-of-school suspension, or expulsion.
